A group for Emergency Managers who share an interest in outreach and education.
There are many resources for emergency managers interested in outreach and eduaction including:
-
National Disaster and Emergency Management University (NDEMU)Offers training and professional development programs for officials, volunteer organizations, and the private sector (training and education through FEMA)
-
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)A FEMA program that trains volunteers in disaster preparedness and response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. My personal favorite (see: community-emergency-response-team ).
-
FEMA's Office of National Continuity Programs (ONCP)Provides outreach and technical assistance to non-federal partners, including state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and critical infrastructure owners and operators FEMA's outreach and technical assistance)
-
Local organizationsMany organizations, such as the City of OKC, near wheer I live, conduct public education and outreach programs to support community resilience and disaster preparedness. A quick Google search should find similar oganizations for your area.
-
House meetingsA valuable tactic for recruiting volunteers and building a team. House meetings allow community members to share their concerns and join together to work for progress. A great resource from San Antonio OEM: PreparingCommunity

When approaching local businesses, voluntary organizations, or media outletsBe prepared to discuss what you need from them and how they can help you with your preparedness campaign. The FEMA-Good_Ideas_Book_0.pdf is useful when approaching a local business, voluntary organization or media outlet.I know this is not an exgaustive list, but is a good starting point. If you have more, join and post them in the group!
