Hand Washing Hygiene Posters for Schools!

Instructions for using this resource:

This resource was put together using google image results for hand washing and ‘coughs and sneezes’. It is aimed at 11-18 age group because this is the age of the students that I teach. However a similar search on google would allow you to find your own images and resources to paste into a document like this, print off, laminate and stick around your own school.

PLEASE NOTE!

The first two images are self explanatory, as is the fourth. However the third image addresses the differences between boys and girls in terms of hygiene and I think is very clever. HOWEVER, you will need permission from your Head Teacher, before putting this up in the boys toilets as the play on words in the poster can have various connotations. The head teacher in my school has not allowed it to be put up and although I may not agree personally, I realise that her decision is taken with the best interest of the school at heart. Having said this I feel that it important enough to share so that each individual school can judge what is suitable for them!

I hope you find it useful!

DRR Competencies

I'm currently working in the Philippines on various DRR projects with schools and am wondering what DRR competencies have been developed. So many DRR activities are undertaken and that's good. But what are the competencies that these projects/activities are based on? Have some been developed? If so, where would I find them? I'd love to hear from folks, especially about DRR competencies related to schools. Thanks for any help you can give me. Beryl Cheal

Get children involved and EDUCATED in drills!

So what's the point of talking about education, drills, planning in schools etc if the students don't know what is expected of them. In most drills that I have see students are relatively passive participants. I have also been running training as part of INSET to teachers and leaders at my school which included table top exercises. I had teachers take on different roles for a variety of likely situations: Lockdown, Bomb Threat and a road traffic accident outside of school. As there is a high vol… Continue
